Send Channel Message

Post text to a Slack channel as a bot or authorized user.

Inputs

InputTypeHow to use it
AccountAccountChoose a saved Slack connector from this organization. Create or reconnect it in Settings > Connectors. Do not enter an API key, password or email address here.
Channelslack channelSelect the Slack channel or supply its ID, such as C0123456789. A channel name or # prefix is not the ID.
Message Texttext boxText to post, using Slack's formatting and mention rules. This field does not send attachments or a blocks object.
Add To Channelyes noWhen true and sending as a bot, tries to invite the bot using the connector's authorized user identity. That user needs permission to invite it. Ignored when sending as a user.
Send As Botyes noChoose true for the bot identity or false for the authorized user identity. The chosen identity needs permission to post.
Bot NametextOptional display name when sending as a bot. Slack may require customization permission. Ignored when sending as a user.

Result

An object with ok, ts and channel. ts is Slack's text message timestamp; keep it unchanged rather than converting it to a number.

Example

Account: choose your Slack connector. Channel: C0123456789; Message Text: A new order is ready; Add To Channel: false; Send As Bot: true; Bot Name: empty.

Errors and limits

The posting identity needs channel access and chat-write permission. Invite the bot manually if necessary. Inspect the channel before retrying an uncertain result to avoid duplicate messages. Reconnect the matching app in Settings if the connection is unavailable. Check the resource IDs and required read or edit permissions. Wait after provider rate limiting. Use live data is required; isolated tests and live debugging cannot contact these services. Provider requests time out after 30 seconds. Slack responses are limited to 2 MiB.

Send Direct Message

Open a direct conversation and send text to a Slack member.

Inputs

InputTypeHow to use it
AccountAccountChoose a saved Slack connector from this organization. Create or reconnect it in Settings > Connectors. Do not enter an API key, password or email address here.
Userslack userSelect the Slack member or supply their user ID, such as U0123456789. Do not pass a display name or email address.
Message Texttext boxText to post, using Slack's formatting and mention rules. This field does not send attachments or a blocks object.
Send As Botyes noChoose true for the bot identity or false for the authorized user identity. The chosen identity needs permission to post.
Bot NametextOptional display name when sending as a bot. Slack may require customization permission. Ignored when sending as a user.

Result

Success returns ok: true, channel and ts. Some Slack open or send failures can return ok: false and error; check ok before treating the result as successful.

Example

Account: choose your Slack connector. User: U0123456789; Message Text: Your report is ready; Send As Bot: true; Bot Name: empty.

Errors and limits

Check the user ID and permission to open direct conversations and send messages. An uncertain retry can send the message twice.

Add Reminder

Ask Slack to create a reminder using the bot connection.

Inputs

InputTypeHow to use it
AccountAccountChoose a saved Slack connector from this organization. Create or reconnect it in Settings > Connectors. Do not enter an API key, password or email address here.
Remind Whoslack userOptional Slack user ID to remind. If empty, no user is sent and Slack uses its default for the authenticated identity. Bot-token restrictions may still prevent creation.
Reminder Texttext boxThe reminder text, such as Review the draft before publishing.
Remind WhentextA time accepted by Slack, such as in 2 hours, tomorrow at 9am, or a supported timestamp. Slack controls interpretation and supported formats.

Result

An object with ok: true and reminderId when Slack accepts it. Slack can reject reminders for unsupported token types or workspace restrictions.

Example

Account: choose your Slack connector. Remind Who: U0123456789; Reminder Text: Review the draft; Remind When: in 2 hours.

Errors and limits

This uses the bot token. Slack may reject it for missing reminder permissions or an unsupported token type. If the workspace disallows it, use a supported Slack-native reminder workflow.

Create Channel

Create a public or private Slack channel.

Inputs

InputTypeHow to use it
AccountAccountChoose a saved Slack connector from this organization. Create or reconnect it in Settings > Connectors. Do not enter an API key, password or email address here.
Channel NametextA new channel name, such as customer-updates. Follow Slack naming rules and avoid an existing channel name.
Privateyes noFalse creates a public channel using the bot identity; true creates a private channel using the authorized user identity. The selected identity needs permission to create that channel type.

Result

An object with ok: true, channelId and channelName. Slack can normalize the final channel name.

Example

Account: choose your Slack connector. Channel Name: customer-updates; Private: false.

Errors and limits

Check channel-create permission and whether the name is used. Inspect Slack for an already-created channel before retrying an uncertain result.

List channels

List one page of Slack channels visible to the bot.

Inputs

InputTypeHow to use it
AccountAccountChoose a saved Slack connector from this organization. Create or reconnect it in Settings > Connectors. Do not enter an API key, password or email address here.
CursortextLeave empty for the first page. For later pages, pass response_metadata.next_cursor unchanged. Do not use a page number.
LimitnumberWhole number from 1 to 100 for this page. Defaults to 25. The provider may return fewer items; check its next-page token.

Result

Slack's page object with channels and response_metadata.next_cursor. The list can be empty. A nonempty cursor means another page exists; an empty cursor means the end.

Example

Account: choose your Slack connector. Limit: 25; Cursor: empty first. Pass response_metadata.next_cursor as Cursor to continue.

Errors and limits

The bot needs the relevant list permissions. Archived channels are excluded. Private channels are visible only when the bot has access.

List users

List one page of Slack members visible to the bot.

Result

Slack's page object with members and response_metadata.next_cursor.

Members can include deactivated users or bots; filter those returned records if needed.

Get channel history

Read one page of messages from a channel accessible to the bot.

Inputs

InputTypeHow to use it
AccountAccountChoose a saved Slack connector from this organization. Create or reconnect it in Settings > Connectors. Do not enter an API key, password or email address here.
ChanneltextSelect the Slack channel or supply its ID, such as C0123456789. A channel name or # prefix is not the ID.
CursortextLeave empty for the first page. Pass response_metadata.next_cursor unchanged to continue reading the same channel.
LimitnumberWhole number from 1 to 15 for this page. Defaults to 15. Slack may apply further rate limits depending on the app and workspace.

Result

Slack's page object with messages, has_more when supplied, and response_metadata.next_cursor when another page is available. Empty messages is normal. Entries remain Slack's native message objects.

Example

Account: choose your Slack connector. Channel: C0123456789; Limit: 15; Cursor: empty first.

Errors and limits

The bot needs channel membership and history-read permission. Wait after rate limiting, then continue with the returned cursor.

Test safely

Isolated tests and live debugging do not call connected providers. Enable Use live data only when you intend to contact the account. Writes, messages and AI requests can change real data or incur provider charges. A successful connection check does not prove access to every action. These examples explain the command contract; they are not evidence of a completed live provider request.
